I thought this too. If your giving out voting slips then surely the most votes is gonna sway it or whats the point. So in turn if your bring a bus full of people your gonna stand a pretty good chance of winning.

I like the idea don't get me wrong I just think judging alone is the better way to decide and a mainroom slot a better prize. Room 2 in the Empire is always empty.

    Was a bit suspect like

Decent enough night. Not sure why the competition was in the second room like, the main room was empty at times. Much bigger turnout than I expected aswell

Cheers for sorting us out for getting down & that Carefull. Even tho your organisational skills are shocking!

All of the Dj's were watched and judged equal amounts, so I dont know where you are getting this idea from, the only time I left the DJ box was to go to the toilet and even then I got some one to stand in for me. All of the sets were spot on, but only one could be a winner and Paul Tutill's set stood out the most to myself and the other judges and to people who spoke to me on the night.

The set up wasnt ideal but this was down to the club itself not being prepared.

i'm not saying he didn't deserve to win, like you say all the dj's were spot on, all i'm saying is it looked very suspicious

you are totally wrong about all of the dj's being watched equally, there wasn't anyone there for almost all of paul's set, over half an hours a long toilet break and there wasn't anyone else watching

it's nothing personal mate, but if you host a dj competition all the contestants should be judged in exactly the same way and you make sure the equipment is up to scratch before the event, that's my view

thats a bit of a cop out...

As far as the equipment goes, did the promoters or club not have a spare? Did it not get tested before the event?

I dunno what all the fuss over setup is about, personally everyone should have been forced to mix vinyl to cd, with a basic mixer  that would have been a competition to watch imo

well of course you're not going to please some people if you run a competition and don't judge it fairly as well as provide equipment that doesn't work properly

it's history now nothing can be done about it but i just hope in future if you're planning a dj competition you ensure it's judged fairly (i still can't believe you're saying it was) and you provide decent gear

saying the gear is the clubs fault is a shit excuse, i know if i was organising an event i'd want to know the mixer worked properly and get a monitor sorted

The fairest way to conduct competitions of this kind are (imo) to post mixes on a forum/website & let the Clubbers decide - Kinda like the Digital Society lot did on the Hardwick forum a while back, that way everything’s transparent & votes considered are out in the open, everyone’s aware who's actually voted for who... rather than mates or 'Judges'. Would make much more sense considering the more votes cast from the public are in turn more likely to pay to go see the winner play at the main event, rather than the winner that 1 judge has decided on.

@ Carefull - Were any of the sets if they were recorded? would be good to hear some of them if they were?
