in the study you quoted, all it actually found was that the 2 groups didn't have significantly different VO2 max values...

VO2 max is generally more to do with training than genetics in highly trained subjects...

it also found that lactate levels were lower in the kenyans, did we forget to mention this?

also oxygen cost at a given intensity was lower in the kenyans, and this would be more down to genetics than the VO2 max of a trained runner...

and finally it states that the high VO2 max (your main arguement remember) is most likely due to the physical activity during childhood, combined with intense training as teenagers...

There were many things to run from in europe from predators to rival tribes...

The most convincing arguement I read was the varied DNA, it has been proven that many tribes of west african origin have a varied DNA pallette, far more varied than that of their euopean counterparts (as we all descended from these tribes, if you go on this theory)... This means your more likely to find varied characteristics from tall to short, fat to thin, fast to slow...

This doesn't mean that black people are naturally faster, taller, more intelligent, it just means that there is a much broader gene sweep - so there is this potentia...

There seems to be four big tests into this and all four came up with inconclusive - if it was a simple as blacks are genetically faster - this would of been easy to prove.

That was the saltin test, I was quoting the Bouchard test, I mentioned training but thought this was too weak an arguement as afro-american athletes follow the same training/dietry patterns as their white counter parts

from what i've found its down to the kenyans haing a lower energy cost of running, something that is critical in running...

and this is due to their body shape, which is due to genetics

but then theres the problem of ethiopians, black SA, and indians sharing similar body shapes but not being as good runners...

but this in turn could be explained by the fact that kenyan runners employ 'western' training techniques whereas the others mentioned usually do not have the resources to do so.

what i found was its probs due to their body shape and influx of western coaches/training techniques that has made they so good...

but body composition is the only genetic factor in the whole thing that has been found to effect it...
