seagate external hard drives Are seagate still a good brand?Narrowed it down to a seagate external or a western digital mybook.Im only using it for films and music not anything confidential or anything
i had a seagate external hd, lasted 7 months. lost roughly about 300gb of trance. due to motor faiulure would not buy 1 ever again
I noticed a few reviews of people saying they didnt have them long and it started clicking and losing files.
Exactly what happened with mine. If anything buy 2, and back the other one up just to be on the extra safe side. Expensive, but you wont be on the verge of hanging yourself like i nearly did.
does this resemble the hdd you're talking about? http://www.google.co.uk/products/ca...BwQzAMwAA&cid=11261755115638409909&sa=image#p

I've not used a mybook but can't see it being crap. I've got a 750 gig internal WD drive in an external enclosure and have had no problems at all with it.
The casing on mine was actually a maxtor box. but once opened up it was a 500gb seagate drive. ( i later found out seagate bought maxtor out, or vice versa ) samsung, and WD have always had good reviews
