let's look at it few different ways, if you want to determine the size of a club, k?

firstly resources... ok you have umm no money, we have umm as much as we need.
secondly league position, we are above you and even if we finish bottom we will still be above you at the end of the season.
thirdly quality of players, please please please name one sunderland player better than each of the following players.

a.) gareth southgate
b.) ugo ehiogu
c.) gaizika mendieta
d.) juninho paulista junior
c.) george boateng



you may also want to consider the percentage of the population of each town which attend games before you start making generalistions about how well supported a team is.

attend 34000
percentage of pop who attend game 23.4%

sund pop - 280800
attend 37000
percentage of pop who attend game 13.2%

i think it is quite obvious from the facts, that we at this moment in time are a bigger club than sunderland. i'm a football realist, and if you can't see that then you need to take your head out of the clouds and realise where sunderland are in the grand scheme of things.

i know boro are a lower middle/bottom premiership side, i don't say anything other, and that makes them a bigger club than sunderland whether you like it or not.

p.s. downing is a quality player, maybe a bit lightweight for the 1st division though!

As football currently stands they are in a higher division than us, that does not mean they are a bigger club, look at history etc etc and the fact we got more against Walsall at home than they did for a northeast derby tells you everything you need to know

we beat chelsea in the zenith data systems cup.

we are bigger, and for the forseeable future we will continue to be a bigger club than sunderland.

however feel free to live in the past while i enjoy today.

Just becasue one team is in a higher division than another does not make them a bigger team.
