Always struck me as a strange choice for a manager. He did well at Sunderland because he seemed to be the right person at the right time - they needed a kick up the arse and he provided it. With a bit more thought he could be great, but thinking has never really been his strong point. He'd probs make a decent coach, but he's defo not manager material.
