MEMPHIS, Tennessee (AP) -- A murder suspect who escaped from jail 11 years ago broke out again using the same hole in the same fence. "You just scream when you hear something like that," said chief jailer Marron Hopkins. David Ivy, 30, escaped May 16 by crawling through a hole in a fence around an inmate recreation area on the Shelby County jail roof and climbing down a drainpipe. Ivy first escaped from the downtown Memphis jail in 1991. Jailers could not explain why the hole had not been repaired. It has now been closed. "If somebody knew what had happened 10 years ago, it would have been outrageous not to have fixed it," said Chuck Fisher, a court-appointed jail monitor. Ivy was released from prison two years ago after serving eight years on a 31-year sentence for robbery and second-degree murder. He was jailed again last year, awaiting trial on first-degree murder in the shooting death of a 25-year-old woman. Authorities describe Ivy, who is 5-foot-8 and 150 pounds, as dangerous and likely armed.
