    NI Contributions

Just wondering... What do people think about NI Payments for the NHS and Pensions..... good idea or bad?

I personally, wouldn't mind scraping paying my NI payments then i'd easily be able to afford my own health care and top up my private pension, rather than being forced into paying it - it's like TV Licence - Why should i have to pay? it's only 1 channel - i don't watch it. May be i don't want to pay for 1)scroungers/poor peoples health care 2)Something i think is worthless and a waste of my money

OR do you still believe in the idea of FREE HEALTHCARE FOR ALL ideaology? the US doesn't and they seem to get by... unless someone has a load of pointless statistics to show me?

    see - i'm not :

dad died of a infection a caused after open heart surgery, possible MRSA.

mum died cause of mis-diagnosed cancer - "lose weight luv" she was told. no - it's was a 45lb cancer.

Brother has learning difficulties due to tramatic birth

emergency c-section for my girlfriend due to 'saturday staff' style midwifes on a saturday night who's attitude was "ooo we'll wait and see what happens" - repeat for 12 hours.

    so yeah, i'm quite biased.

fact is at the min you can pay to avoid the waiting lists, if you took away free healthcare the fact that Eeveryone would be on it would mean identicle waitinf lists just like in the states and if you dont have insurence you would be HAMMERED so the poorest people will be hit hardest

it never really bothered me, healthcare must be such a difficult sector to work in - but i've seen how the NHS runs from my point of view...

Example, birth of first child. maternity ward. she's the only woman in there, can't walk because they fucked up the birth and now she's had major surgery. nurse station, 8 feet away, surrounded by 8 or 9 midwifes most of the day, complaining how hard they work, they're understaffed, they forget to change dressings, TWICE almost give the baby the wrong drugs. when 'sharon' walks over i go to complain about the care she's getting - the lass agrees with me, and starts giving me the same spiel she's been discussing with her mates "yea, it's bad innit, we're so short staffed and over worked - why don't you write a letter, on our behalf - try get something done, more money for us"

WHAT? there's 9 of you stood around - and have been all week?!?!

anyways, she got a bad infection for 3 or 4 months and 2 years later still ain't right

so yeah - my experiences have been poor. i'd MUCH rather fuck the NI payments off and pay thru the nose for a nice fully comp scheme

i'm sure they wouldn't "turn it off over night" - but as soon as there's money and competetion flying about - things would change.

i'm talking about having to pay a seperate tax for my health care - that i'm not happy with. i'd rather not pay it and go private. instead, i have to pay both.

National insurance is one of the biggest scams in this country. It was SUPPOSED to cover your state pension and statuatory sick pay but the irony is that when we get to pension age - there will be NO STATE PENSIONS!

    WE PAY IT FOR NOTHING!

Healthcare is another issue i have a massive 'issue' with. I never use the NHS so i see no reason why i should contribute - I believe in CHOICE. If people want to opt into a state health system, let them. If they dont, then they should pay to have things done privately.

People might say 'your lucky you have your health, try saying your opinions to some kid on a cancer ward' - but thats not something i care about enough to think its MY responsibility to support other peoples health. I firmly believe the onus is on families and individuals to rely on themselves to support each other. The same goes with benefits aswell. I believe in benefits to act as a crash mat for people in need - but benefits as a WAY OF LIFE?!?! NO BLOODY WAY.

There simply is no need for this country to be consistantly hamstrung by crippling taxes and red tape - by all means have some kind of framework for supporting the needy and helping them get them on their feet - but to make 'supporting others' the main priority - no thanks.

This is the first time since the last labour government back in the seventies when 60% of what we earn on average goes out in taxes (income tax / NI and then tax on fuel, vat etc) - SIXTY PERCENT!! That is absolutely terrible and is fast turning us into one of the most uncompetitive countries in the west.

Look at our manufacturing industry - totally f**cked
    High tech industry - where?

Seriously all we have going for ourselves is our service industry which is being gradually offshored, and our banking which will probably see the same fate in the future. Countries like china and india are seriously going to run us INTO THE GROUND in the future if we dont lean down and let us be competitive in this world .... the first step is to stop bloody crippling everyone with taxes and let us make our own financial decisions rather that taking all our money from us before we get a chance to spend it - then offer us all 0% credit cards to make up for it - 1.1 TRILLION pounds of debt we are in, in the UK. Horrific.

Our tax and welfare policy in this country is horrific. Im emigrating as soon as i get the chance. Seriously.

    *deep breath*

If i have an accident ill either

    a) pay for it if it was my own fault, i have no issue with that
    b) sue the person who's fault it was

.... and have MUCH MORE money in my pocket at the end of the day to thank for that.

The national insurance paid by those pensioners when they were our age was supposed to pay for their pensions now. I dont begrudge people pensions at all - in fact i wholeheartedly support them. The fact is that the government is LYING to us when it says those contributions are for pensioners now - if we were to calculate the real cost of pensions to us, then i bet you it falls somewhat below what we contribute in national insurance.

Thats why they call it STEALTH INCOME TAX - thats what it is. The government and society has brainwashed people into backing down from arguments about tax as soon as someone comes up with the 'what if you had an accident' or 'what about the people who fought for your freedom in the war' - as far as im concerned thats almost totalitarian brainwashing and social engineering. Sorry.
