saw this on gareths facebook ACTIVA played a blinder at DETOX last OCTOBER an act that never fails to deliver
Yeah Phil, should be class, some great talent coming out of the region at the moment, and 2 hours of ACTIVA will be a treat!
I do like Activa and i'll possibly end up at this - but it does seem Newcastle gets the same few djs over and over. surely there is a huge range of artists that wouldn't command huge fees that could fill places just as much
There will be some pretty exciting line ups with Native in 2012, including a few North East exclusives, so watch this space
Looking forward to this @Wordonfire - I think the scene is lacking heavily in mid-range talent. Guys like Kearney, Indecent Noise, Activa etc get booked again and again because they're not mental money and still deliver the goods. Trying to book someone JOC or Andy Moor and putting in him in a sub-1000 capacity club is daft. Ticket prices would be sky high. Then there's guys like Maguire, who are absolute legends, but sit just below the radar and wouldn't bring a large enough crowd into a small venue to justify the fee. He'd make epic support at a larger club, but large clubs in Newcastle aren't really interested in Trance nights. DS.NE is the only >500-1000 night I can think of. I'm looking forward to seeing what the next wave of DJ/Producers brings and what local promoters do with them. I'm a massive fan of the small club/long set vibe. It seems to be all too rare these days and doesn't give a DJ a chance to stretch their legs. Anyway, roll on the 10th! Activa's previous sets have always been mint and I'm hoping he plays some of the Psy-flavoured stuff he's been loving lately!
I agree with maybe a lack of mid range talent that dont command high fees, but still there are a shitload of upcoming talented djs/producers that can support on lineups. I just think there are djs out there that will pull in and not command that much more fee wise. Djs who played a couple of months time in between last playing makes them a little stale for me. (apologies for hijacking the thread a little, looking forward to seeing who you have on this year)
