her labour cost taxpayers £150,000 more than a normal triplet delivery simply because of her size! newspapers like the NOTW love jumping onto stories like this and villifying and blaming people for costing everyone else money, plus there was the "risk" factor to the babies and mother. so it was always going to happen, she was always going to get stick for it!

I think this is a pretty fair comment:

Yes, other individuals get that much spent on them for various illnesses etc, but being overweight was her choice. I do think people should take more responsibility for their own well-being.

not always 100% true. i'm (indirectly) involved with genetics testing at the Centre for Life and a company in Cambridge and there's some current research at the moment into which gene either stores or uses fat for growth.

Yes, there are some genetic and medical reasons for being overweight, that affect some people. Apparently she has an under-active thyroid. However, there is medication you can take for this, and if you look at her diet it was hardly healthy.

It's not slightly overweight I have an issue with, but I don't understand people allowing themselves to get morbidly obese. Just throwing your hands up and saying "It's not my fault" doesn't cut it, unless you really are eating at least reasonably healthily etc.

Edit - Just spotted this in Reuters: http://uk.reuters.com/article/healthNews/idUKN0846769020080909?sp=true
