its the shipyards all over again, it was always going to happen tho i even tried to place a bet on them laying off more that a 5th of there workforce last summer bt they wouldnt take it.

i am suprised they didnt go cap in hand to gordon and get a grant of something labour seem intent on plastering over cracks with more credit.

back to nissan tho.... its the worst news to hit sunderland since Gabbidini moved to Palace.. the place with be FUCKED

theres only 3000 perm there and their laying off 800

Crime will go beserk...someones attempted to brake into my flat last night first time in 6 yrs... yr going to have to get used to taking your car radio faceplate out everytime u leave the car etc etc... no jobs and harsh benifit system = chav rebellion

Reinforce yr homes and choose a weapon then wait for the 3 striped apocalypse

Back to Nissan, really really shit crack. There is no jobs anywhere either. i left my job in December after planning on going to Oz on the 28th of Jan but now have had to delay that until April due to needing a bit more cash after an expensive xmas.
Been looking for a quick start temporary job to get some extra cash almost everyday since mid December & there is fuck all (obviously the worst time of year to seek work I know) but never thought it'd be this bad. :(

The worse thing about it all is that it has a cascade effect .... 6k people all spending less money means more businesses go under, putting more people out of work etc etc.

    This is bad crack!
I think its fucking awful aswell how most of the staff found out by reading the Chronicle/echo/journal or text/phonecalls from friends and family, the staff should have been told before the papers went to press!

Micks place is on the supply chain and cutting its workforce by 45% they find out next friday who is safe and who goes.

Does anyone know the selection criteria for nissan?

Micks place is going on performance, attendance and punctuality. Is nissan the same?

From what Peter said of the info they got yesterday, they dont know the criteria yet and are hoping to get a lot of voluntary redundancies out of the 800 perms.

Sorry to hear bout Mick being at risk as well :(

with nissan the wages are in bands arent they, so it makes sound business sence to get rid of the staff on higher bands as the staff on lower bands will be doing the same job on less money.

Hopefully it will be on performance, attitude etc like Gestamp

My uncle was made redundant at the end of last year from Johnson controls, he was a top engineer, he was on stupid wages though, way above the £80k per year, he got nearly £150k redundancy  he said from then that nissan and suppliers would make redundancies after the new year but no one would listen to him!

Few people said thats what they might do,but could also be last in first out! My supervisor says it could come down to attendance, performance and apprasials. Just got to wait for them to decide. Scary times!!
