Is Eminem the Judge Jules of rap music?

(sorry phil, beat you to it)

b4 i start i have to say that this was actually an@rchys comment, and phil was guna post it, but i beat him to it :)

right, during the weekend we were having a conversation about Eminem, and we came to the conclusion that he is doing to rap music what the judge is doing to dance music.
hes taking it from being underground and making it more commercial and making lots of money out of it.

    does any1 agree with this?

i think to start with he didnt want it to become as commercial as it has, but now it is, hes making as much money as he can off it.

    discuss..............

    unfair...

Totally unfair to single Judge Jules out here like.

I agree that he is out to make money now (probably!) but then again, who isnt?

Im sure every other DJ isnt in it for the fun/love of it.

Lots will be, but there are lots where money will make their decisions for them.........

In "commercial" do you mean popular?

Shame on those two for being so successful!

Eminem is a manufactured pop star created by Dr Dre and favoured by angry young men who masturbate at lot.

Jules is one of the best British DJ's ever. Its easy to call him "Commercial" now as he has his own radio show and makes cheesy dance tunes to make money. This wasn't the case in the early nintys when ppl like him, Norman J and Taul Paul where the "underground DJ's" who really moulded clubland as it is today.

I don't think they are similar?

Sander K is the Eminem of dance & Will Smith is the Judge Jules of hip hop.

Init, hip-hop was in the US charts when Marshall was still a kid.

I think that Will Smith's career has many more similarities to Jules than Marshall's.

    Re: unfair...

I used JJ as the example cos he is the most successful of mass-appeal dj's. He has tried to appeal to as many ppl as possible in order to maximise how much £££ he makes. How he has done this, and how everyone does it, is by having a broad (cheese) appeal.

I also apprecate that JJ was also well-respected dj before he decided to play pap and cash in, no dis-respect to him for that, but it's called selling out, and I aint interested.

LOTS of djs stay true to the music the believe in and listen too, bri, if you aint heard any of these, you've not listened to the right djs. Ppl like Danny Tenaglia, Kerry Chandler, have been doing thier shit for decades, and playing the same sort of shit too, but evolving.

JJ appeals to ppl getting into dance music as he is high profile, well marketed, plays fairly cheesy shit which is easy to get into, and he's on the radio. Plastic shit like this is easy to get into, and easily disposable. Eminem is as plastic as McD packaging, about as real, and just as disposable.

There is virtually nothing in life that comes easy and is worthwhile.

    Re: Re: unfair...

    what?

How exactly isn't eminem "real" - his early material sounds very similar to his newer stuff.

Tenaglia and Chandlers styles have most certainly changed as dance music has evolved - so have their record boxes... Just like judge jules...

The onyl similarity I see with judge n marshall is they both appeal to mass markets as they are pop/radio friendly artists.

How are Marshall's records radio friendly? They change them so much for radio play, not just removal of swearing but they also alter sentences to make them seem less un-PC.

oh leave him alone everyone please if u've seen any of his recent sets u'll know that he doesnt even play commercial sets reeli anymore n the only reason why anyone calls him cheesy is cos he's got the ability to spot class tunes bofre they get dead big in clubland and just cso he happens to have a prime time show on radio 1 it hardly makes him cheesy. how many of u actaully listen to his satuday nite show not just the first half hour where he mite play a few of the tunes which are big at the moment but the full two hours because if u did u'd realise that half the stuff ur saying is utter crap!! xxx one way to piss me off on a monday morning when i've had no sleep the nite before - slag julesy off!!! grrrr!!! xxxx
