Faliraki at the back end of August. Not really somewhere I'd have fancied going, but really looking forward to it now. Just need a break me thinks...

One of my mates did actually go a few years back now, but said it was probably one of the best holidays he'd actually been on. I'm not really going with any expectations as such, but its somewhere I haven't been...good to try new places and all that.

As I've said earlier on, its not somewhere I'd have picked to go personally, simply because of the bad press it got around the time of the club 18-30 boom but when I've spoken to people who've been it seems as though they've rated the holiday very highly. According to a few sites I looked at around the time we booked 18-30 actually seem to be pulling out of holidays there anyway.

chiang mai is lush but bangkok is ming and smelly....unfortunatley never went to the beachy areas but wud highly reccomend chiang mai....get day train up from bangkok....its a nice train journey with lush scenery!

we stayed for a night when we got there for convenience more that anything....just get out the next day

if you have the time i wud also suggest going to sien reap in cambodia for a few days...you can fly from thailand and we got the bus back to bangkok....you would not be disappointed! :D

A few years ago I went to Indonesia on my own for a month, again with nothing booked in advance apart from the flight. I had a great time and didn't get into any trouble at all, and spent a fantastic four weeks travelling around Java and Bali! As long as you keep your wits about you and are aware of potential pitfalls, you should be fine.

The main reason I'm not booking anything in advance is because it is so much cheaper if you don't. Also, I doubt if you can even book in the type of places I will be staying! Plus it means you can change your mind about exactly where you are going when you get there.

I think I might get the train up to Chiang Mai for a day or two, then fly down to the islands. Thanks Ruth!

Ref Thailand do both sides mate!

My advice is just get out of Bangkok asap and see as much of the beaches as you can.

Krabi, Phi Phi, Koh Phangan & Samui are all amazing.

Travel is ridiculousy cheap over there aswell
